Choosing grooming products can feel overwhelming — especially for dogs with high-maintenance coats, sensitive skin, or allergies. Doodle parents, I see you.

There’s a sea of options out there, and it’s not always obvious what truly supports coat and skin health versus what simply looks nice on a shelf.

In my salon, I choose every product and tool with care. I research formulations, attend continuing education seminars, and often test products on myself before they go on our Blissful Pups.

My philosophy is simple: what touches your dog should be safe, effective, and thoughtfully matched to their individual needs.

🧰 Tools That Actually Work

Professional-grade grooming tools aren’t about prestige, they’re about function. The right brush or comb helps protect the coat, reduce discomfort, and make brushing more effective and efficient.

No two dogs are the same, which is why I rotate tools based on:

  • Coat type (curly, combination, or double coat)

  • Season (dry skin, shedding, coat blowouts)

  • Life stage (puppy vs. mature coat)

  • Specific needs (matting, allergy-prone skin, sensitivity)

What I use in the salon:

  • Artero slicker brushes, rakes, and dematting tools — ergonomic, long-lasting, and gentle on both coat and skin.

  • Paw Brothers deshedding and dematting rakes — strong, reliable, and especially helpful on dense or textured coats.

  • Coarse and fine-tooth combs — essential for line brushing, fluff drying, and final checks.

  • Mat splitters — used selectively to preserve coat and minimize discomfort during detangling.

🧠 Quality tools reduce effort and discomfort and support better grooming outcomes long term.

🧴 Products I Choose with Care (and Why)

Many of the dogs I work with have combination coats, allergy-prone skin, or sensitivities to scent and ingredients. That means I choose coat care products that clean thoroughly, rinse easily, and support skin barrier health.

What I especially appreciate about Botaniqa is how customizable it is. Their line allows you to mix and match based on coat type, condition, and season — a game changer for complex, combo coats that don’t follow a standard grooming pattern.

Some of my go-to product lines:

  • Botaniqa USA – Plant-based, pH-balanced, and designed for professional flexibility. I love that I can tailor products to each dog’s coat and skin.

Use code BLISS for 10% off orders from Botaniqa USA.

  • Artero Professional – Tools and formulas that support coat structure while maintaining softness and manageability.

  • Chris Christensen – Trusted for detangling and finishing sprays (Ice on Ice) and gentle facial cleansers.

  • Nature’s Specialties – The Blueberry Facial is gentle, brightening, and effective.

  • TropiClean – A tearless, brightening facial cleanser that’s easy to use around sensitive eyes and noses.

  • Bio-Groom – Hypoallergenic shampoo and cream rinse great for pups with sensitive or allergy-prone skin.

  • Goldie – Probiotic wipes with colloidal oatmeal, aloe, and clean ingredients. Excellent for daily care.

  • Lucky Pup – Balm and butter for dry noses, elbows, and paws. Natural, fragrance-free, and lick safe.

🐾 Reminder: If your dog is licking their paws frequently or has red, itchy ears or skin, please talk to your veterinarian. These may be signs of underlying issues.

🧠 Why Quality Dog Grooming Tools & Products Matter

Every choice in the grooming process adds up. Especially for dogs with dense, curly, or sensitive coats, the right products and tools aren’t optional they’re foundational to comfort, coat longevity, and positive grooming experiences.

The wrong tools or products can:

  • Miss undercoat, leading to mats

  • Dry or irritate the skin

  • Damage coat

  • Make brushing harder (and less comfortable)
